How to keep your smile shining at-home – oral care tips and tricks
At Raby Road Dental Centre we understand that oral hygiene is vital for your dental health and your overall well-being too. We prefer to prevent problems from occurring rather than simply fixing things when they go wrong. In this blog post, we will share our tips and tricks on how to maintain the best oral health and hygiene.
Brush teeth twice a day
Brush teeth thoroughly twice a day and floss daily between the teeth to remove dental plaque. Don’t go to bed without brushing your teeth, it is good practice to ensure you brush your teeth before you go to sleep and when you wake up. Gently brush your teeth on all sides with a soft-bristle brush and fluoride toothpaste.
Floss
Flossing is a great habit to have, the action of cleaning in between our teeth, using interdental brushing, dental floss or water or air flossers, loosens bacteria and food debris from between our teeth. This allows brushing to be much more successful at removing plaque.
Drink more water
Drink more water. We all know that water is great for your health, but it also has many benefits for your teeth. Water rinses the bacteria from your mouth after you eat. To protect your teeth, drink a glass of water after eating to wash away any food from your mouth. This will dilute the acid in your mouth, helping to prevent tooth decay.
Health is wealth
Have a healthy lifestyle, including eating well, not smoking and limiting your alcohol and sugar intake. It's good for your whole body, including your teeth, gums, and mouth. You may especially feel plaque on your teeth after eating sugary foods.
Visit the Dentist
Have regular dental check-ups to ensure everything is healthy and in good condition, here at Raby Road we offer general and family dentistry services, with both NHS and private treatment prices.
Soft Brushes
Switch to a Soft-bristled Brush. Soft-bristled toothbrushes ensure an excellent clean without harming your teeth. Soft toothbrushes are more effective at removing food and plaque buildup than hard-bristle toothbrushes, and they are gentler on your teeth and gums. Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months.
